MERJE is seeking a Democratic Services & Engagement Lead for a leading member-owned organisation. They operate differently, putting their members at the heart of decision-making. The company's Council and Democracy team ensures member voices are heard and represented in all decisions

This pivotal role involves designing and delivering member-centric democratic processes, driving engagement, and managing key events. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in large-scale democratic processes and working with elected members.

Salary: £84,500-£90,000 plus excellent benefits including private healthcare and company car or car allowance

Location: Manchester - hybrid working with a minimum of 1 and ideally 2 days a week in the office. The nature of this role means there will be some very occasional evening and weekend work

The Role

The Democratic Services & Engagement Lead will head a team responsible for empowering member-owners to participate in democratic processes. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the company's strategic priorities and member engagement.

Key Responsibilities of the Democratic Services & Engagement Lead:

Lead the design and delivery of formal and informal democratic processes

Develop innovative solutions to drive member engagement and participation

Manage key democratic events and elections

Oversee the development of Board and Council representative candidates

Work closely with Board, Council, and business leaders to establish priorities

 Required knowledge and experience for the Democratic Services & Engagement Lead role:

Significant experience in leading large-scale democratic processes

Knowledge of electoral and democratic processes in complex organisations

Strong commercial acumen and ability to bring fresh ideas

Previous line management experience in a matrix organisation

Excellent relationship building and influencing skills up to executive level
