Bookkeeper / Legal Cashier

MERJE is looking for a Bookkeeper / Legal Cashier to join a busy practice based in Leeds. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a solicitors firm in a similar role. They will be responsible for overseeing the accounts payable and receivable, processing payroll and conducting other tasks related to finance.

Salary: £28,000 – £30,000 DOE

Location: Leeds City Centre (Hybrid Working)

Full time or part time position

The Role:

The Bookkeeper / Legal Cashier will be responsible for maintaining computerised accounts, managing the pay roll, preparing budgets and analysis of income and expenditure against budget, assisting in preparation of VAT returns, assisting in preparation of annual and other periodic accounts, submission of claims for fees both by post and online, and ensuring Compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules. The ideal candidate will be well organized and comfortable dealing with financial data. They should be excellent at recording data and have an ability to product clear financial reports.

Key Responsibilities of the Bookkeeper / Legal Cashier:

• Maintaining computerised accounts

• Managing the pay roll

• Preparing budgets and analysis of income and expenditure against budget

• Assisting in preparation of VAT returns

• Assisting in preparation of annual and other periodic accounts

Required knowledge and experience for the Bookkeeper / Legal Cashier role:

• Experience working in a solicitors firm in a similar role

• Familiarity with the Solicitors Accounts Rules

• Knowledge of legal aid billing (preferred)

• Well organized and comfortable dealing with financial data

• Excellent at recording data and have an ability to product clear financial reports
