Head of Risk Strategy
Role Overview & Purpose
As Head of Risk Strategy, you will join a forward-thinking line 2 team that seeks to integrate risk thinking into the heart of strategic decision making across the business. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to have exposure to the senior management team and to provide insight and perspectives that will influence strategic thinking. The role will report to the Risk Strategy and Transformation Director and be part of a senior leadership team that is helping to redefine how a strong risk strategy can be a driver for value and growth.
Very flexible hybrid working with options for the role to be based out of several office locations to include Birmingham, London and Edinburgh.

Role responsibilities.
- Responsible for oversight of risk strategy and all the supporting documentation including the functional risk mission and mandate; the risk management framework and risk policies; and responsible for all of the enterprise risk reporting (internal and external) on behalf of the CRO.
- Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing an enterprise risk management framework and align with the strategic objectives of the business; and sets standards and principles for risk management.
- lead and advocate a culture of strategic thinking and focus on what matters within the Risk Function; and develop standards and principles for risk management that help executives and their teams to identify, assess and mitigate potential risks to the business both now and in the future.
- Provide insights on emerging risks and external factors that could influence the Group’s thinking on strategic objectives; and support the CRO in helping the executive define and manage their top risks.
Personal Attributes & Experience
- Senior leader in the Financial Services sector with deep understanding of the life and pensions sector.
- Have strong familiarity with the regulatory requirements affecting risk management in life and pensions.
- Proven ability to engage, influence and challenge at Board and Executive level.
- Ability to design and evolve an Enterprise Risk Management Framework that is practical, scalable, and relevant to the business
- Deep understanding of the traditional risk types that could affect a life company – like credit, capital, and liquidity, operational and conduct; and growing knowledge of emerging tech/AI and data risks
- Firsthand experience of writing an ORSA for a life and pensions company; and of producing Board and Exec level reporting that is impactful on the top risks affecting a business.
- An experienced risk professional from an actuarial / accounting or financial risk background.
