Lead CR Analyst
MERJE is seeking a talented Lead Credit Risk Analyst for a leading Mortgage provider in the UK.
Having grown over 150% YoY in 2024, they are now hiring a Lead Credit Risk Analyst to help them continue growing responsibly and compassionately – blending data-driven insight with an understanding of real people’s lives.
Location: London (Very Hybrid)
Salary: Up to £70K
The Role
As a Lead credit Risk Analyst , you would be reporting to the Head of Propositions and you’ll be a key member of the1st line credit function, shaping how they evaluate and support customers with more complex financial stories. This includes building smarter risk models, improving affordability assessments, and ensuring lending decisions are inclusive without compromising on credit quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Using credit bureaus and non-conventional data sources to analyse near-prime
mortgage performance to identify trends, risks, and opportunities to expand access
safely
- Work with colleagues in credit, underwriting and product to evolve criteria and
propositions that recognise complexity e.g., variable income, minor credit issues, or
self-employment
- Help maintain credit scoring models and affordability tools that are both robust
and human-centred
- Develop clear reporting to monitor portfolio health and highlight areas for continuous
improvement
- Support the risk assessment process for forward flow partners and funder reporting
Contribute to scenario testing and stress analysis, ensuring our approach remains
resilient in different market conditions
- Keep up to date with UK mortgage regulation, consumer duty requirements, and
emerging risks impacting underserved borrowers
- Act as an advocate for balanced, evidence-led credit decisioning that reflects the
realities of modern life
Required knowledge and experience:
- Significant experience in credit risk analysis or modelling, ideally in UK mortgages and
complex or near-prime lending
- Deep understanding of how to assess and manage credit risk across complex customer
types
- Strong technical skills – familiarity with Python and SQL a plus
Experience developing credit scorecards, PD/LGD models, and affordability
assessments
- Knowledge of UK affordability rules and regulatory landscape (FCA, PRA, Consumer
Duty)
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership, both iterating pre-existing
work and starting from a blank slate
- Ability to clearly communicate your analyses and models in writing, verbally and
through appropriate visualisations
