Legal Counsel – Financial Services
An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a talented Legal Counsel to join the dynamic in-house legal team of a leading consumer finance business.
In this role, you will provide strategic and operational legal support across a wide range of commercial and corporate matters, partnering closely with stakeholders across the organisation.
Working alongside the General Counsel, you will play a key role in delivering expert legal advice, supporting business objectives, and helping foster a strong culture of legal awareness, governance, and compliance.

The Role
As Legal Counsel, you will support all aspects of the Group’s business, providing legal guidance across areas including commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, litigation, M&A, corporate governance, property, employment, and data privacy.
You will also lead and mentor a team of two Paralegals, supporting their professional development while ensuring the delivery of a high-quality legal service to the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice across a broad range of matters including commercial, corporate, consumer, intellectual property, and employment law.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, working closely with procurement teams and business stakeholders to ensure legal solutions support commercial objectives.
- Manage and advise on disputes and litigation and coordinating with external law firms where required.
- Provide legal support to the Human Resources team on employee relations and employment-related matters.
- Support the business in maintaining regulatory compliance, particularly in relation to FCA requirements and GDPR.
- Keep the Head of Legal informed of significant legal matters, including contracts, litigation, and employment issues.
- Support the UK business and wider Group with company secretarial, governance, and corporate restructuring projects.
- Deliver training sessions and guidance to internal stakeholders on key legal topics where required.
Skills and Experience
- UK Qualified Solicitor with a minimum of 5 years’ PQE.
- Experience gained in commercial in-house legal team
- Strong experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, analytical, and influencing skills.
- Strong organisational and leadership abilities, with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
- Experience within the consumer lending sector is desirable but not essential
